About Me

I was born in a middle-class family in the city of Kota, Rajasthan. My father who is a pediatrician by profession always emphasized on the importance of education. Coming from a humble background, I had all the freedom to explore things around me yet with frugality. As a child, I developed interest in mechanical toys and as I recall, once I made a working fan out of a remote-operated toy car. Since in early 90s electricity provisions were limited across the nation, this little toy fan helped me get relief during hot summer days. As I climbed up grades in school, I developed deep passion for mathematics and science. This helped me pursue my interest of engineering later on as I cleared JEE in 2004 and joined IIT Kanpur. Being far away from home was a new challenge as one had to cope up with just not academic stress but also look for mental and physical well-being. I studied in the department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at IIT Kanpur, which was one of the first biotechnology-driven initiative in an engineering school across the nation.  Apart from academics, making life-long friends and solving problems of national-importance, it was truly an experience which I will cherish throughout my life. Something which I will never forget, in a team of 3, we had proposed a model for closed-loop insulin delivery for diabetic patients which won us awards in bio-business competitions at IITK and IITB. Later, I pursued advanced science degree of PhD from SUNY Buffalo and gained knowledge in the upcoming area of glycobiology. At Buffalo, I was also engaged in the community welfare schemes as a part of AID Buffalo which helped me become a better person, participate in the community as a whole, build network and support grass-root projects not just financially but also by volunteering. Further, as I am always passionate about solving healthcare issues, I diversified my profile and completed research projects on pancreatic, lung and breast cancer but with an emphasis on glycobiology. Working on these projects, helped me understand how complicated cancer as a disorder is, and what would it take to solve its puzzle. Having diverse background from academia and industry, I have realized why these two entities must come together to achieve the unthinkable. As the world is changing rapidly, it is imperative to learn more about the pros and cons which latest technologies would bring in in a country such as India and globally.
